In June  1998, North American Silliman alumni leaders went on a retreat in Stoney Point,  New York. They got united, organized and joined together in expressing their views, concerns, perspective on certain issues and collectively convey them to Silliman University, its Board of  Trustees, administration, staff and students.

It was also agreed that every two years, alumni willl meet to rekindle and keep the eternal flame of Silliman Spirit burning. It is the meeting of the minds, spirits and hearts. It is TIPON.
